Nothing says springtime like colourful tulips and where else is known as the land of tulips other than Holland?

With the official start of spring just around the corner and the first buds of blossom starting to appear on the stark winter trees, it feels like the new season is on its merry way and what could be a more inspiring theme for a spring wedding than one filled with vibrant tulips and some darling Dutch details?!

Opt for lively pink, red, orange and yellow tulips to create a vivid colour palette or choose cool blue and white Delft blue crockery for a calming theme and alternatively bring the two together and go double Dutch!

It’s claimed that there are more bikes than residents in The Netherlands and if you like to ride your bicycle you’ll also be pleased to hear that the trusty two-wheeler has been featured in many a wedding of late, so use cycles as a cool and trendy theme or even travel off into the sunset with a bike getaway at the end of your ceremony or wedding day!

Worldwide Wedding Inspiration – Happy Chinese New Year

19/02/2015 |

Getting Married Abroad Blog 17

Happy Chinese New Year!

Last year was the year of the horse in the Chinese zodiac calendar and so it seemed only fitting to share some horse themed wedding day inspiration and ideas for adding a little equestrian elegance to your big day.

This year is the year of the goat/sheep in the Chinese zodiac calendar, so instead of focusing on an animal theme, today is all about drawing inspiration from Chinese culture.

If you got engaged in Hong Kong, or the culture holds a special place in your heart, or if you’d like to add hints of your own Chinese heritage to your wedding day, then feast your peepers over this display of pretty patterned prints, Chinese lanterns, paper parasols, paper cranes, paper flowers and origami, Chinese fortune cookie favours and elegant tea ceremonies!

Add dashes of red to symbolise love, joy and prosperity or the Chinese happiness symbol, which represents the union of a husband and wife together with their families.

Worldwide Wedding Inspiration – Paris Is Always A Good Idea

Getting Married Abroad

Each month we jet off together to a faraway land to be inspired and intrigued by the sights and delights of a different destination in a feature called Worldwide Wedding Inspiration.

After four cities and hundreds of shows Fashion Week came to a close yesterday in Paris, leaving The City of Love fresh in many people’s minds. So we are hopping over the English Channel to one of the most romantic cities in the world today and whether this tempts you to tie the knot in pretty Paris or simply ignites your Parisian passion, we’ll be looking at some ways to add a little ooh, la, la to your big day!

Scenes from ‘Sex and the City’ when Carrie is ‘An American Girl in Paris’ sprang to mind when I started this feature. Shiny stiletto sandals, full ballerina midi skirts and delicate sugar plum shades ensured Carrie daintily danced across the Parisian streets – c’est chic!

Channel your inner Carrie and take inspiration from the effortless elegance of the Parisians by teaming classically designed dresses with a soft colour palette of muted greys, subtle blush shades, vintage rose gold and mild off-white tones.

Traditional Parisian café’s and the stylish sunlit streets conjure up creative direction for your wedding décor: starch white tablecloths, charming wrought iron seating, an abundance of tiny flickering tea lights in metallic candle holders and of course a sugary haze of pastel macaroons and tasteful French desserts.

Just like Miss Bradshaw and her iconic Timmy Woods Eiffel Tower bag (seen above – j’adore!), add understated references to Paris throughout your theme with vintage Paris postcards for your table names, or make famous architectural references such as the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe or the Moulin Rouge on your paper goods and partner with elegant gold calligraphy writing. Oh and not forgetting your very own Mr. Big, who of course should be as stylish as can be in a timeless Tux.

Worldwide Wedding Inspiration – Classic Meets Modern Hollywood

It’s almost the weekend again and what’s a Thursday morning without a little glamour? Yep, you guessed right! We are off to Hollywood this fine day to see the sights: the Hollywood Sign, the Walk of Fame and the neon glitz of Sunset Strip.

Each month on the blog you’ll find a mood board post inspired by a different country or region, making up a blog post series called ‘Worldwide Wedding Inspiration‘. The aim is to get your creative juices flowing for your destination wedding with colours, theme suggestions and ideas from every corner of the globe without being too themed!

We have already been won over by Scandi style, enjoyed the essence of The Emerald Isle, been bowled over by bright and beautiful Brazil and felt enchanted by bonnie Scotland, and after seeing the shining starlet’s on the red carpet at this week’s Emmy’s it felt right that this month’s ideas should be inspired by Hollywood.

Rather than going down the old Hollywood glamour and film-inspired wedding route which you have no doubt seen before, I wanted to share the vibe of how today’s LA brides are rocking their wedding’s in a classic meets modern Hollywood way.

Luxurious hotels surrounded by palm-lined streets create a more formal affair, venues are decorated with decadent chandeliers, hints of blush, metallic touches and subtle sequins and finished with a classic checkerboard dance floor.

A timeless red pout and ruby red nails gives brides a celeb-worthy wedding day look; wear with a red-carpet-worthy gown, timeless designer heels, vintage jewellery and a voluminous blow dry or stylized updo.

Crisp black and white continues as an underlying theme with the groom and groomsmen in sleek tuxedo suits and the bridesmaids in flashy sequined dresses or formal eveningwear gowns.

Worldwide Wedding Inspiration – Bonnie Scotland

You Mean The World To Me 2

The Queen officially opened the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow last night and so it seemed appropriate to dedicate today’s worldwide wedding inspiration to bonnie Scotland.

Scenery couldn’t get much more atmospheric than that of Scotland, with its breathtaking landscapes of the rural Highlands, the exposed and windswept lakes, the grand and magnificent urban architecture and the elegant castles fit for a fairytale. Sounds wildly romantic right?

Whether you’re Scottish at heart and want to incorporate your heritage into your big day, or the brooding, sullen skies and the rich culture of Scotland would create the perfect destination location for you, you’ll find all the Scottish wedding inspiration you need right here.

Include family crests, kilts, bagpipes and earthy, autumnal hues (inspired by tartan colour palettes) into your wedding theme for a traditional feel.

Add touches of The Scotch Thistle and Scottish Heather to bouquets and boutonnieres or use Whiskey barrels to display floral arrangements to exemplify rustic influences. Of course a Scottish shindig wouldn’t be complete without Scotch Whiskey favours, or a whiskey bar, some serious Ceilidh music and dancing, or Highland dancing!

Top of the morning to you! With The Cheltenham Gold Cup starting today (a popular date on the calendar with the Irish) and St Patrick’s Day on Monday next week, it seemed only fitting to look to our neighbours across the Irish Sea for this month’s worldwide wedding inspiration.

Famous for St Patrick, countless castles and stunning churches, its beautiful wind-swept coastline and craggy cliffs, grey skies and gorgeous green countryside, a rich literary history, Irish dancing, horse racing, shamrocks, good luck, friendly locals, welcoming pubs, and of course Guinness! Whether you’re holding your nuptials in Ireland or simply want to inject the essence of The Emerald Isle into your big day style, the rich culture can create a beyond-beautiful theme.

Represent the spirit of Ireland with rich wintery shades of green or light heather hues, teamed with fabulous flower crowns, rustic bouquets and centerpieces, natural ethereal elements and Celtic cross details.
