If you haven’t already heard, the peeps over at Pantone (the official authority on all things colour) have announced the 2015 colour of the year.

Drum roll please… And the Pantone Colour of the Year 2015 goes to… Marsala!

Rich, earthy and vino-inspired, the rusty red wine colour of Marsala has undertones of brown and at first glance it can take some warming to. However, once you delve a little deeper this full-bodied beauty really comes to life.

“Much like the fortified wine that gives Marsala its name, this tasteful hue embodies the satisfying richness of a fulfilling meal while its grounding red-brown roots emanate a sophisticated, natural earthiness.” – Pantone Colour Institute.

When it comes to weddings, Pantone’s Marsala instantly feels like an obvious autumn/winter wedding colour palette, however teamed with brighter pops of pink and against the white of a wedding, Marsala can really make a year-round statement.

So this week’s Friday Five introduces this seductive colour to you and shows you five areas of your wedding where Marsala could add impact.

“Marsala is a subtly seductive shade, one that draws us in to its embracing warmth.” – Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director, Pantone Color Institute.

First up for inspiration from the Pantone palette was Violet Tulip

This week, let cheerful Freesia brighten your big day.

“…a blazing yellow that is sure to illuminate wardrobes this season. A tropical, floral-inspired shade, Freesia’s warmth and energy help set the stage…”

“Designers take a modern twist on the traditional for spring 2014 by pairing soft pastels with vivid brights to create a colorful equilibrium. Inspired by a mixture of blooming flowers, travels abroad and strong, confident women, designers use color to refresh, revive and defy conventional wisdom.” – pantone.com

“This season, consumers are looking for a state of thoughtful, emotional and artistic equilibrium,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “While this need for stability is reflected in the composition of the palette, the inherent versatility of the individual colors allows for experimentation with new looks and color combinations.”
