A popular idea in the wonderful world of weddings is the welcome bag. What a lovely surprise for guests who are arriving at a destination wedding and there to greet them is a wonderful welcome bag, especially if they have travelled a long way.

The welcome bag works best if guests are all staying at the same hotel of course, otherwise depositing bags all over town could be a challenge! Keep your wedding theme or colours running through the welcome bag as this is the first introduction when your guests arrive.

It will be an extra expense, however you could opt for a welcome bag instead of having favours on your tables on the big day, or it could be an original idea for thank you gifts for the main bridal party or your nearest and dearest. It’s a great way to say thank you for being here and for travelling all this way to see us tie the knot.

Go local! Source the contents for your welcome bag when you arrive at your destination. This will ensure you give your guests a taste of the region and means you don’t have to transport items if you are having a destination wedding.  Opt for practical gifts that guests can actually use on the trip, rather than ones that they have to take home.

Wrap it up

Paper bags, canvas totes, vintage boxes or baskets – keep your welcome container simple and cost effective.

You can find cute canvas bags and personalised totes on websites such as Etsy, notonthehighstreet.com and many more, but don’t forget High Street stores like Primark, H&M and Topshop as they create well priced tote bags all year round – they won’t be personalised but they come in pretty prints and will make a great beach bag or use-again gift.

More than words

Add a ‘welcome’ and ‘thank you for coming’ card or letter to your welcome bag.

You could also write your more personal thank you cards for your bridal party, parents and anyone who has especially helped with organising the wedding and have these in your welcome bags.
