It’s Real Wedding Wednesday and what a delightful destination soiree I have for you today!

Have you ever been to Las Vegas? Despite visiting California a number of times, I still haven’t ventured across the desert to the neon city but I soooo want to! The scorching sunshine and luxurious hotel suites, the bright lights and 24 hour partying (should your heart desire!), the tantalising shows and the world-class restaurants, who wouldn’t fancy a few days filled with fun in viva Las Vegas?!

Jen and Steve thought exactly that too! Both from the UK, today’s couple holidayed in Vegas together and with friends on many occasions and as they got engaged there too, it became clear that a destination wedding in this delightful desert city was the only place for them to say “I Do!”. They jetted off with their nearest and dearest to tie the knot in the sunshiny State of Nevada and took the opportunity to show their loved ones all of the lights and delights of this sizzling city that they hold dear to their hearts.

“We visited Vegas for a weekend years ago and got hooked. We subsequently visited yearly either just the two of us or with friends and got engaged there so it is very special to us.”

“We looked at resorts and suites but we wanted to not be cooped up and to enjoy the sunshine. Also we had vendors in mind and didn’t want to be restricted. The gardens at Ceasars were stunning and the private house was absolutely perfect for a laid back reception including a grill pit, a cocktail bar and a pool!”

“I actually bought a dress from J.Crew that I loved, but my bridesmaid wanted to go dress shopping just for a laugh. I wasn’t taking it particularly seriously until I tried on the Maggie Sottero Giovanna dress…it was just right and I had just inherited pretty much the exact amount that it cost so it was like fate! I usually wear my hair in a bun, so I wanted a dramatic version of this, incorporating a veil.”

What were your highlights and your favourite memories from the day?

  • “Steve’s best man Scott was hugely helpful, chauffeuring us to appointments and helping with errands. Buying copious amounts of booze the day before the wedding in Walmart was even fun because of him!”

  • “My dad is quiet and reserved, so I was really surprised that he actually did a speech, it was really lovely. Steve and Scott followed with beautiful speeches with my friend Louise also chipping in and the mother of the bride!”

“The food from Lucille’s Smokehouse BBQ and the bartender were absolutely amazing, everybody loved the food (classic Southern BBQ) and they were so friendly.”

“We did a little bus tour of Vegas (Downtown, the desert and the Las Vegas sign) between the ceremony and reception. This was a lot of fun, with beers on the bus! The desert pictures turned out really well, but the actual location was decidedly unglamorous. Basically a dodgy car park full of various waste and debris – we found this hilarious!”

Do you have any advice for couples that are looking to get married in Las Vegas?

  • The courthouse is Downtown so allow plenty of time to get the marriage license.

  • If possible do a ‘pre-trip’ to scope out venues and services – this helped us massively.

  • If there are a lot of people in your party, it helps to all be staying in the same resort.

  • Leave tipping money with your best man or maid of honour for your various vendors.

  • The heat can be ridiculous so an outfit change helps (I had my J.Crew dress as my reception dress!)

Would you do anything differently?

  • “If you are having your dress steam pressed (or the suits), do this at least several days before hand – we were to the wire with this as we were too busy partying with our mates!”

Do you have any wedding budget tips?

  • “It definitely helped to hire a private venue and organizing the vendors ourselves. Had we gone with the resort hotel we would have been obliged to use their vendors that would have been substantially more expensive.”

  • “We also married on a Thursday, which was considerably cheaper than a weekend wedding.”
