Kate and Pat’s wedding ceremony was set in the six acres of manicured gardens that make up Conservatory Gardens in Central Park, New York. Central Park no less! How amazing?
The peaceful and tranquil garden setting created a fantastic, colourful backdrop to the couples beautiful photos. The gorgeous bride radiated true ‘Sex and the City’ style with her stunning gown, vintage-inspired accessories and fabulous red lippy. Eat your heart out Carrie Bradshaw! The groom and the bridesmaids wore black – tailored and sleek – a perfect choice for this elegant city wedding.
“In 2008 Patrick and I visited New York for the first time. It was before we had got engaged and we hadn’t really talked too much about the big “M’ word. The minute we entered the city we both agreed that NYC was the wedding venue for us! Everything about it, from the atmosphere, size, wow factor and the sense that it was the best city we had ever visited.”
“We got engaged in 2009 and as a complete one off (I promise!) I switched on Wedding TV. By coincidence it was a New York wedding special following a company named Ultimate USA Weddings. The Director of the company – Gino – was an instant TV star. I said straight away to Pat, ‘Lets use him to plan our wedding!’ We chose the venues, flowers etc all online which was surprisingly easy and still as exciting as doing the choosing in person.”
“Our ceremony was at the beautiful Conservatory Gardens in Central Park. The flowers looked amazing and although it was October, they were still in full bloom. The ceremony was everything we ever wanted – small and intimate and very informal.”
- Entrance of the bride: The Phantom of the Opera – All I Ask of You
“The violinist played a gorgeous piece of music from The Phantom of the Opera as I entered the park.”
“Having the park setting for the photographs was so special but my favourite thing was seeing the skyscrapers in the background and when the rain started the umbrellas gave the pictures a quirky twist.”
- Kings of Leon – Use Somebody
“We did our first dance in the park to a live acoustic guitar version of Use Somebody by Kings of Leon.”
“The guests then boarded an iconic yellow school bus to take them to our two reception venues. We had drinks at Chelsea Brewery on the pier watching the sun go down before eating, drinking and dancing the night away on World Yacht, as we cruised down the Hudson.”
“Pat and I made the table place settings and bought the wedding favours in NYC. The cocktails kept coming all night at some speed and the food was a success too. The drink of the night was of course the ‘Cosmo’ and I don’t think there was a point when any of the girls didn’t have one in hand.”
Dance floor classics:
“One of the most special things about the day for me, was seeing my mum enjoying herself in New York. It was the first time she had ever been abroad so it will always be a special memory. Also, as the World Yacht sailed under the Brooklyn Bridge and stopped at the Statue of Liberty, we were all on the top deck for some of the most spectacular picture opportunities the city has to offer. These pictures always bring back special memories to us both. The city and the amazing people who shared it with us, made our day and we will always be thankful to all the people who travelled such a long distance to make the trip!”
What were your highlights and your favorite memories from the day?
- “Having our first dance in Central Park was amazing and unique. Something we’ll never forget.”
Do you have any advice for brides-to-be who are looking to get married in New York?
- “Don’t be afraid to use a wedding planner. It made planning our wedding such an easy and enjoyable experience, safe in the knowledge that there was someone ‘on the ground’ looking after our interests. Our only tip here is to research the planner. The one we used was also used by all the major holiday companies for destination weddings, so we knew we were in good hands.”
Would you do anything differently?
- “Relax on the morning of the wedding. I was so nervous that the morning is a blur.”
Do you have any wedding budget tips?
- “Have a figure in mind and stick to it. Purchase the services/items that fit to your budget. Don’t get carried away with even the little things, as they all add up and budgets can easily spiral out of control.”
