Krausz Jewellery – The Vintage Glamour Bridal Collection

When it comes to bridal headpieces vintage elegance is the trend de jour. So if your wedding day outfit requires a finishing touch and vintage glamour is the look you’re going for, you’re in for a bespoke bridal treat.

Michelle Krausz of Krausz Jewellery has launched a new collection of custom-made bridal hair accessories inspired by a more glamorous age. Carefully sourcing vintage jewellery from the 1950s, Michelle then reworks them into unique bridal headpieces by adding her own creative twist.

Michelle graduated from Central Saint Martins in 2002 with a degree in Jewellery and has collaborated with fashion and product designers including Tord Boontje to produce a collection for Atelier Swarovski.

I caught up with Michelle to ask her more about the new collection, her move into bridal accessories and to find out what inspires her creativity…

YMTWTM: Tell us more about the new ‘Vintage Glamour’ Bridal Collection.

  • “Krausz Jewellery is launching a new collection of bespoke bridal hair accessories. ‘Vintage Glamour’ is inspired by the nostalgic luxury of the 1950s with each piece named after a glamorous actress of the era.”

  • “I’ve really enjoyed designing the ‘Vintage Glamour’ Collection. I wanted each piece to be as individual as the bride herself. It has been very inspiring to delve into the glamour of a bygone era to create beautiful, modern headpieces.”

YMTWTM: The Bridal Collection is made up of reworked vintage pieces. Is there a historical era that you identify with most?

  • “I have always felt an affinity with the 1950s. The style of the decade evokes a femininity epitomized by glamorous icons such as Marilyn Monroe. I also love Christian Dior’s ‘New Look’ of the 1950s. All those nipped in waists and full skirts emphasising a woman’s natural curves and lots of fabulous sparkle!”

YMTWTM: Who and what inspires you?

  • “I grew up in a house overflowing with vintage treasures. My parents and grandparents were avid collectors of eclectic objects from oriental textiles to perfume bottles and antique buttons. How could I fail to be inspired by all these objects with their sense of history and beauty?”

  • “My last collection – The Barok Collection – was inspired by my Father who was a fashion designer during the swinging sixties with a popular boutique based on Earls Court Road. He designed many memorable dresses including the Crossword Dress in 1968.”

  • “The collection pays homage to his textile designs and uses vintage printing techniques in a new contemporary way to create beautiful cuffs, necklaces and earrings.”

YMTWTM: Is there a Krausz Jewellery muse (or who would you love to see wearing Krausz Jewellery)?

  • “I would love to see Helen Mirren wearing some of my pieces. She has an effortless elegance.”

YMTWTM: What is your most memorable moment as a designer to-date?

  • “I love seeing my client’s faces when they first see their commissioned piece of jewellery. I will always remember a client’s ecstatic face when she first set eyes on her 2½ carat vivid yellow diamond ring – it was quite emotional!”

YMTWTM: What is your favourite trend right now?

  • “I’m loving art deco jewellery at the moment – all those big, bold geometric shapes and white stones with a hint of colour, articulated to give movement. Have you seen Chanel’s oversized pearl jewellery from their SS14 Collection; such a dramatic modern statement, updating the classic pearl.”

YMTWTM: How would you describe your personal style?

  • “Understated, clean lines, block colours.”

YMTWTM: What accessory would you never leave the house without?

  • “My Father designed a beautiful gold, onyx, coral and diamond ring for my Mother in the 1970s – I absolutely love wearing it.”

YMTWTM: Where do you like to shop in London?

  • “I’m completely obsessed with dress agencies – I love the feeling that you might find something amazing. I particularly like wearing DKNY and Calvin Klein.”

YMTWTM: If you could attend a wedding anywhere in the world where would it be?

  • “I’ve always been enchanted by traditional English weddings, especially at stately homes – there’s something so magical about them. I was lucky enough to be invited to a client’s wedding at Hampton Court Palace last weekend. It was such a perfect day; beautiful bride, fantastic food and it didn’t rain – what more could you ask for.”

YMTWTM: What’s coming up next for Krausz Jewellery?

  1. I love that these are large enough to make a statement, but small enough to rock with a pixie cut (like mine)
