As each new year arrives, more and more new and exciting ideas hit the wedding scene and there’s always some that seriously stand out and get picked up by brides and grooms the world over.

One craze that isn’t going anywhere is the trend to host a destination wedding! According to a report from The Knot, 24% of couples opted to fly to a faraway shore to say ‘I Do’ in 2013 and last year saw further increases. Hey, if an idyllic Italian destination wedding is good enough for the gorgeous George Clooney, then who are we to disagree?!

So once you’ve decided that a destination day is for you and your beau, the fun and creative part of your planning can begin!

Relaxed-yet-refined

For many years now weddings have become increasingly relaxed, with a firm focus on more fun and less formality. That’s not to say they are any less show stopping, special or sentimental, there’s just less fuss and more flexibility.

The fashion for a modern, informal twist on a classic, chic wedding theme will be even more present in 2015. Think style but with substance, honed but with heart, a sleek update on boho bridal. Click on each photograph below to see the full wedding in all of its relaxed-yet-refined glory!

Unplugged weddings

2014 was the year of social media! Wedding after wedding introduced personalised hashtags for their wedding guests to upload and tag their pictures as the wedding day unfolded.

This year, brides and grooms are focusing on having their visitors fully present, wanting them instead to enjoy the day without being attached to their phones – the rise of the unplugged wedding trend.

If you’re going all-out unplugged, be sure to communicate your wishes to your nearest and dearest prior to the wedding with a modest mention in your invitation, a more assertive note in your ceremony program and some specific signs on the day.

Give me a sign

Wedding signs have taken the wedding world by storm. From cute ‘here comes the bride’ boards carried by flower girls, page boys and ring bearers to chalk boards filled with quotes, the written word can add a quirky, customised touch to your day and looks fantastic in your photos too.

Tasting stations

This culinary craze started out with simple designated drinks stations or sweet stations that delighted guests with a display of desserts and treats. However, tasting stations have now gone one juicy jump further, with couples opting for pancake stations, churro carts, ice cream vans or any other delicacy that their heart desires, served up to their friends and family in all sorts of creative styles!

Family style dining

Family style dining has typically been popular with European weddings in the past, however the suggestion of lovely long tables that help guests to connect and chat has now been seen more wide spread. Discuss your dining options with your wedding planner or hotel, as there may be restrictions on what format you can have at your chosen reception location.
